Dental Anxiety isn’t Something You Just “Get Over”

If you are a person who has avoided seeing the dentist until you absolutely have to, we get you. We provide care to many patients who have struggled to maintain routine checkups and cleanings, even though they promise themselves after every necessary visit that they will change their habits. Look, dental anxiety may not be clear across the board; every person has their own personal reasons for feeling fearful when the need for dental care arises. It isn’t enough to say we understand and provide gentle dental care. We believe you deserve to know that we take action against dental anxiety.
Sedation? Not Exactly . . .
Sedation dentistry has become very popular in the past decade. There is value in snoozing right through a dental visit. However, one of the interesting details about folks who feel anxious about dental care is that they are also more likely to resist the idea of dental sedation. Again, something we totally understand. That’s why our Houston office relies on NuCalm for the reduction of dental-related stress.
NuCalm isn’t new, which is great because that means it’s had time to prove itself as a real contender against dental anxiety. Rather than suppressing the nervous system with pharmaceutical drugs, the NuCalm system has a mutli-dimensional approach that includes:
- Holistic supplement dosing that inhibits the production of adrenaline.
- Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation. This 60-year-old therapy has been used to treat insomnia and anxiety outside of the dental office, and has demonstrated impressive stress-relieving capabilities during dental treatments.
- Noise-cancelling headphones. Often, what sets off stress during dental treatments is the sound of instruments near the ears. Not only does NuCalm incorporate headphones that block out external noise, the music that is played through these headphones includes neuroacoustic notes that invite brain waves to enter a pre-sleep state.
- Light-blocking through the application of a comfortable eye mask.
If you observed this list of modalities outside of the context of dentistry, you may imagine a relaxing spa treatment. That’s the point. We’d like it if you could actually have a positive dental experience. You deserve that. Dentistry isn’t supposed to be stressful or wrought with anxiety. Our use of NuCalm is intended to create a new dental reality.
